Custom Garage Cabinets

One of the best ways to keep the garage neat is to use shelving along the sides to hold your items. Some people buy garage cabinets, some use racks, and other make their own shelves from wood. Each of these will hold your belongings, but which is best? We’re going to go over the benefits and weaknesses of each.

Wooden Shelves

A simple option that a lot of people try is to build some shelves out of cheap 2 x 4’s. These end up being the least costly and don’t involve any installation. These will often work to hold things like extra towels, paint cans, and boxes for your tools. While this choice is the cheapest, it has its issues. These are the least visually appealing options, and also don’t offer any kind of protection against dust and the elements. In the long term, this isn’t the best choice for your garage storage.

Storage Racks

Another option for storing things in the garage is overhead storage racks. These take advantage of the space above cars that usually goes unused. Their biggest advantage is that they maximize the space in your garage, utilizing space you normally couldn’t. These look fine and can store boxes, luggage, towel bins, etc. The only downside to these is that they may not be the best choice to store things that you reach for often, since they’re not as easy to reach into as garage cabinets are. These are better off for things you only need seasonally, like boxes of decorations or luggage.

Garage Cabinets

The best option for storing in your garage is garage cabinets. These are mounted to the wall, so you can clean under them easily. They come in a variety of colors and are easily the nicest to the eye. You can store your towels, bins, and tool boxes in these without exposing them to the elements and keeping them away from pests. In the long term, garage cabinets are the best investment.
